J. C. Meyer Solvent Drying System
Our chemistry lab has a J. C. Meyer solvent drying system. This system provides a safe and reliable source of anhydrous solvents for sensitive reactions. Currently this system is set up for six common solvents: tetrahydrofuran (THF), diethyl ether (Et2O), dichloromethane (CH2Cl2), toluene (PhCH3), acetonitrile (CH3CN), and dimethylformamide (DMF).
Buchi Rotavapor R-215
Buchi R-215 Rotavapor unit in the chemistry lab is used to evaporate solvents. Each unit is coupled with a single Buchi V-700 self-clean pump and a Buchi B-491 Heating Bath. Rotavapor R-215 can rotate samples between 25–4000 mL at a rate of 20–280 rpm with maximum flask weight of 3 kg. Currently our lab has three Buchi R-215 rotavapors.
Buchi V-700 pump
Buchi V-700 pump has an ultimate vacuum (absolute) rating of < 10 mbar and an ultimate vacuum rating of 24 mbar when using a gas ballast.
Buchi B-491 Heating Bath
This heat bath accompanying the rotavapor unit has a temperature range between 20–180 ± 2 °C and a bath size of 4 L.
Thermo Scientific Immersion Coolers
Neslab CC 100 allows for cooling to a temperature of -90 ± 0.5° C. The immersion coolers allow our laboratory to function continuously even when lacking a supply of dry ice.
Sanplatec Dry Keeper Cabinet Desiccator
This sanplatec cabinet desiccator is used to store moisture sensitive reagents.
Binder FD 240 Drying Ovens
Two Binder Ovens are set up for drying glassware.
Buchi Melting/Boiling Point M-560
Buchi M-560 is used to determine either melting or boiling point of a newly synthesized compound. Three different samples can be determined simultaneously. Buchi M-560 easily records the melting-point/boiling-point temperature range, only by pressing one button twice.
Our laboratory has eight functional fume hoods and one solvent hood. Fume hoods are fully supplied with natural gas, pressured air, high-purity nitrogen, and DI water. Fume hood is also equipped with monkey bars to easily set up reactions, and a horizontal/vertical combo sash. Both the solvent hood and horizontal/vertical combo sash are designed to ensure work safety.
Mettler Toledo XS204 Delta Range Analytic Balance
This analytic balance is routinely used the chemical weighting purpose. Its maximum weight capability is 220 g and weight accuracy of 0.1 mg. The balance uses a "SmartGrid" rather than traditional weighing system. The SmartGrid is used to weight samples in testing tubes and round-bottom flasks. It reduces possible turbulence from air or sample left on the balance that may lead to inaccuracy in measurement.
