Almuthanna Nassar, PhD

Applied Postdoctoral Fellow

Almuthanna Nassar received the B.Sc. degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology, Irbid, Jordan, in 2006, the M.Sc. degree from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2014, and the Ph.D. degree from University of South Florida (USF), Tampa, FL, USA, in 2021, all in electrical engineering.

Dr. Nassar has six years of research experience in Machine and Deep Reinforcement Learning, mm-Wave, 5G systems, and Wireless Communications. He has over ten years of industry expertise in Radio Access Network (RAN) Planning & Design of multi-technology cellular networks for major mobile operators.

He worked as a Research Assistant with the Secure & Intelligent Systems (SIS) Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Yasin Yilmaz, EE Department, USF, from 2017 to 2021. His Ph.D. research focused on Machine and Deep Reinforcement Learning for adaptive resource management and network slicing in Wireless Communications Systems, IoT Networking, Intelligent Vehicular Systems, and Smart Cities. He was a Radio Access Network (RAN) Planning & Design Specialist Manager with Etihad Etisalat Company (mobily), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 2009 to 2017.

His current research interests include Machine and Deep Reinforcement Learning and its applications in Oncology and Federated Learning Systems. This includes medical image analysis, image-guidance and adaptation, distributed machine learning, dynamic decision support for treatment selection in combination therapies type problems, computational modeling of treatment outcomes, and developing a federated learning system.

He is a recipient of the IEEE ComSoc Student Travel Grant, IEEE Int. Conf. Commun. (ICC), in 2019, and the Dissertation Completion Award from University of South Florida, in 2021.
