Dr. Doratha (Armen) Byrd, Ph.D., MPH

Dr. Doratha (Armen) Byrd is an Assistant Member in the Department of Cancer Epidemiology. She received an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Florida and completed her Ph.D. in Epidemiology at Emory University, where she developed and validated novel dietary and lifestyle inflammation scores and evaluated their associations with colorectal neoplasms. She went on to complete a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Metabolic Epidemiology Branch of the National Cancer Institute, working with Drs. Rashmi Sinha and Emily Vogtmann, where her work focused on developing rigorous and reproducible methodology to study the microbiome in cancer etiology. At Moffitt, Dr. Byrd studies the interrelations of diet and other lifestyle factors with the gut microbiome and associated metabolites in the risk and progression of cancers, including colorectal and breast cancers.
